Zambia Travel Info
Zambia is a country rich in culture and diversity, with the mighty Zambezi River, the awesome Victoria Falls, Lake Kariba, and over 12 ruggered and wild Game Reserves, Luangwa National Park being the biggest. The Zambian contemporary culture is a blend of values, norms, material and spiritual traditions of more than 70 ethnically diverse people.
When to go to Zambia
There is no definite "best time of year to travel to Zambia". Zambia is an all-year-round destination with advantages and disadvantages associated with travelling in either season.
Thinking of when to go to Zambia, its easy to choose as it has a tropical inland climate, dominated by the wet and dry seasons. April through to August is generally cooler, possibly cold, the temperature drops in the evening and early mornings, September through to November, is hot and dry, with hot, humid and wet weather expected from December until early April.
Is it safe to travel in Zambia?
Zambia safety: please refer to our guidelines for advice however, we advise that you are an adequately prepared traveller and keep an eye out on all you belongings the majority of the time. Money exchange is not advised to occur on the streets with local merchants, rather use the national bank.
Please be advised that Pathfinders offers 24 hour ground support for all staff and volunteers to ensure safety in Zambia. Our co-ordinators will provide as much assistance and local knowledge as they can to integrating you into your country and programme.
Zambia Travel Visas
Travellers requiring a travel visa for Zambia may obtain them at the point of entry into the country. Visas for British passport holders are currently £35, best payable in US$ cash.
Zambia Heath
Recommended vaccinations for Zambia: Hepatitis A, Polio, and Typhoid.
Vaccination for Yellow Fever is essential even if traveling from an infected area, and recommended even if you are not. Be sure to have your vaccination record of yellow fever with you when you arrive.
Malaria in Zambia: Consult with your local physician before departing and obtain prophylactics. When in Zambia sleep under Mosquito net and apply mosquito repellent as needed. We do advise that long sleeves shirts are worn and repellent is reapplied at regular intervals.
HIV/AIDS in Zambiab: Zambia is a high risk area it is recommended that all necessary precautions are taken.
Drinking water in Zambia: We advise not to drink local running water or tap water, bottled water where possible is recommended.
