Tanzania is the largest and most diverse country in East Africa. This dark continent unveils fascinating, ancient cultures to the brave. The game viewing is rated the best in Africa. Tanzania has an intense fusion of eastern and African culture, hosting exotic travellers who brought with them eastern spices and traditional British influence.

When to go to Tanzania

The best time of year to travel to Tanzania is from May to November when the weather is generally less rain inland and at the coast.

Deciding when to go to Tanzania, in general, Tanzania's weather is tropical, hot and humid. Coastal areas receive rain in December, January, April, May and early June. Inland, there is one wet season: from November to January

Is it safe to travel in Tanzania?

Tanzania safety: Please refer to our guidelines for advice however, we advise that you are an adequately prepared traveller and keep an eye out on all you belongings the majority of the time. Money exchange is not advised to occur on the streets with local merchants, rather use the national bank.

Tanzania Travel Visa

All travellers need to obtain Tanzania travel visas in advance from the nearest Tanzanian Embassy or Consulate.
If this is not possible one is able to purchase a visa at point of entry into the country; these include the International Airports at Dar-es-Salaam, Zanzibar Island and the border crossing point from Kenya to Tanzania.

Recommended vaccinations for Tanzania: Hepatitis A, Polio, and Typhoid

Vaccination for Yellow Fever is essential even if travelling from an infected area, and recommended even if you are not. Be sure to have your vaccination record of yellow fever with you when you arrive.

Malaria in Tanzania: Consult with your local physician before departing and obtain prophylactics. When in Tanzania sleep under Mosquito net and applymosquito repellent as needed. Pathfinders does advise that long sleeves shirts are worn and repellent is reapplied at regular intervals.

HIV/AIDS in Tanzania: Tanzania is a high risk area it is recommended that all necessary precautions are taken as the HIV/AIDS infection rate is 1 in 3 in Tanzania.

Drinking water in Tanzania: We advise not to drink local running water or tap water, bottled water where possible is recommended.
